Design Director, Core Experience

The Design Director for Core Experience at Block will lead a team of over 10 designers, shaping the fundamental flows and frameworks of Cash App to enhance the daily experiences of millions of customers. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on design work, reporting to the Head of Product Design for Cash App and Afterpay. The position is based in the Bay Area, CA, with remote work options available.

Key responsibilities include defining and upholding high craft standards for Core Experience, driving long-term vision and strategy in partnership with senior product and engineering leadership, and mentoring designers across various career stages. The role also involves tackling complex design challenges, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and promoting the adoption of emerging tools and AI-driven approaches to enhance team efficiency.

Candidates should have over 12 years of experience in product design, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and the ability to simplify complex systems. Experience in leading design teams, including player-coach roles, and a proven track record in crafting long-term vision and customer-focused strategies for scalable products are essential. Deep expertise in designing consumer financial products or similarly complex, trust-dependent systems is highly desirable.
