Key responsibilities include attending legal proceedings in person or remotely to record verbatim accounts, managing and maintaining recording equipment, and ensuring high-quality audio recordings. You will also be responsible for annotating recordings with relevant notes and timestamps to facilitate accurate transcription. Timely submission of recordings and annotations is essential to meet client deadlines.
Candidates must have completed a training program or possess previous reporting experience. Ownership of personal court reporting equipment is required, including a multi-channel mixer and microphones for in-person assignments. Proficiency in using recording software, a high-speed internet connection, and reliable transportation are necessary. Legal eligibility to work in the United States and a current U.S. bank account for contract payments are also required.
As an independent contractor, compensation is project-based and includes a daily appearance fee, reimbursement for travel expenses when applicable, and commissions on copy sales and exhibit handling. Payments are made weekly via direct deposit.
