Director, Autonomy Perception
The Director of Autonomy Perception at May Mobility will lead the vision, strategy, and technical roadmap of the Autonomy Perception team. This role is pivotal in advancing May's core autonomy software stack, ensuring that the company's innovative Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) architecture operates on high-quality data from sensors and sensor processing algorithms. Reporting to the Senior Director of Autonomy, the Director will provide leadership to autonomy engineering managers and engineers, fostering their professional growth as they develop industry-leading technological advancements.
Key responsibilities include serving as a technical thought leader to champion May Mobility's mission and priorities, developing and executing autonomy strategies in collaboration with executives and engineering leaders. The Director will work cross-functionally with Vehicle Engineering, Product, and Operations leaders to address and deploy solutions to autonomy perception challenges. Additionally, the role involves delivering innovative improvements to perception technology, such as enhancements in object detection, classification, tracking, and prediction. Ensuring the efficient and effective operation of core perception technologies in commercial deployments and supporting the resolution of related issues are also critical aspects of the position.
The ideal candidate will possess a PhD or master's degree in a relevant, highly technical field such as robotics, computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or physics. A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience is required, with at least 7 years focused on software engineering in mission-critical software and/or robotic systems. Demonstrated ability to solve complex autonomy problems as a principal investigator, staff or principal engineer, or director is essential. Experience leading a team of 10 or more engineers, setting goals, leading by example, and managing challenging situations is also necessary. Previous experience developing and deploying innovative solutions in the autonomous vehicle or related space is highly desirable.
