The Director of Communications, DET UK, will lead the narrative, positioning, and integrated communications for the Duolingo English Test (DET) in the United Kingdom. This role involves localizing the global DET strategy to resonate with UK audiences, including universities, employers, regulators, and learners. The position is part of the Global Communications team and collaborates closely with departments such as Product, Policy/Legal, Marketing, Data, and regional PR leads to ensure consistent, evidence-based, and measurable messaging aligned with UK-specific objectives.

Key responsibilities include defining and owning the UK market communications strategy and annual priorities for the DET, aligning with business goals and regional needs. The role involves building a continuous UK story pipeline that translates product improvements, efficacy data, access and affordability proof points, and policy updates into credible narratives and media moments that reinforce trust and category leadership. Additionally, the director will lead integrated announcement planning for UK-relevant DET updates, including message architecture, FAQs, spokesperson preparation, and toolkits for local adaptation and amplification. Establishing standards, templates, and operating rhythms with cross-functional partners to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent communications across UK channels is also a key aspect of the role.

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in communications, with significant expertise in product, corporate, or policy communications within a tech or education company, preferably with UK or multi-market responsibility. A proven track record in building or transforming communications systems and standards at scale, with clear measurement of impact on trust, consideration, or adoption, is essential. Exceptional writing and editing skills are required to distill complex concepts into clear, concise messages and toolkits for multiple audiences and channels. Experience in planning and executing integrated announcement moments with cross-functional partners, including executive and spokesperson preparation, is also necessary. High judgment and issue management skills in sensitive or regulated contexts, along with operational excellence in establishing workflows, calendars, templates, and feedback loops that enhance clarity and speed across teams, are important qualifications. The ability to work from or relocate to London, UK, is required.
