Embedded Engineer, Vehicle Security
Harbinger Motors is seeking an Embedded Engineer specializing in Vehicle Security to join our Software team. As a key player in developing the next generation of electric medium-duty trucks and chassis systems, you will focus on securing the embedded systems that power our vehicles. This role offers the opportunity to work on a clean-sheet platform that integrates advanced embedded control, drive-by-wire, and electrified powertrain technologies to deliver a safer, smarter, and more efficient vehicle foundation.
In this position, you will collaborate with software and hardware teams to design and implement security-critical features for embedded controllers and vehicle networks. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining secure embedded Linux and RTOS environments across control modules for propulsion, chassis, and body systems. You will also design and integrate mechanisms for secure boot and firmware integrity verification, cryptographic key management, secure OTA updates, encrypted vehicle communications, and trusted execution environments. Additionally, you will participate in threat modeling, secure code reviews, vulnerability assessments, and support compliance with emerging vehicle security standards.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, along with at least 3 years of experience developing and securing embedded systems (Linux or RTOS). Strong proficiency in C++, C, and/or Rust for low-level software development is required. Experience in areas such as Linux kernel or driver development, platform firmware, trusted OS development, or security co-processor firmware is essential. Familiarity with ARM-based SoCs used in automotive or industrial applications and working knowledge of vehicle communication protocols are also necessary. Candidates must be U.S. Persons due to access to export-controlled technology.
Harbinger Motors offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a salary range of $180,000 to $240,000 per year.
