EMC Design Engineer
Archer is seeking an EMC Design Engineer to join our team in San Jose, California. As a leading aerospace company, Archer is dedicated to developing all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft aimed at advancing sustainable air mobility. Our mission is to design, manufacture, and operate aircraft capable of carrying four passengers with minimal noise, contributing to the future of urban transportation.
In this role, the EMC Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing EMI filters for various Archer products. Key tasks include performing in-depth circuit and finite element method (FEM) simulations to assess emissions, susceptibility, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and lightning strike resilience. The engineer will provide detailed electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) recommendations to electrical, power electronics, and mechanical engineering teams, focusing on PCB board layouts, cable shielding strategies, enclosure designs, and grounding techniques. Collaboration with EMC test engineers to design, test, and certify products in accordance with DO-160G and MIL-461G standards is essential, as is working with external EMC test laboratories for aircraft-level compliance.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in EMI analysis and simulation of power electronics and electric circuits. Proficiency with circuit simulation tools such as MATLAB, PLECS, and PSIM, as well as Ansys EM tools like Q3D, SIWave, HFSS, and Maxwell, is required. A detailed understanding of various EMC equipment, including LISNs, antennas, BCI probes, EMI test receivers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and impedance analyzers, is essential. Familiarity with standards such as DO-160, MIL-461, CISPR 12/16/25/32, UN ECE Regulation 10, and FCC Part 15/18 is also necessary.
Preferred qualifications include prior EMC pre-compliance and certification experience in the aerospace (DO-160 or MIL-461) or automotive industry (FCC or UN ECE Regulation 10). A detailed understanding of signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) design, simulation, and measurement is advantageous, as is experience with the analysis, design, and testing of active EMI filters.
At Archer, we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent with the skills and leadership needed to grow our business. We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the company's strategy. For this position, we are targeting a base pay range of $134,000 to $194,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
