Engineering Manager, Application Security
Qualia, a leading B2B real estate technology company, is seeking an entrepreneurial Engineering Manager to lead its Application Security team. This role focuses on transforming the AppSec function by integrating AI-assisted workflows across a JavaScript/NodeJS and Kubernetes stack. The team is responsible for secure design reviews, vulnerability triage, internal penetration testing, incident response support, and security tooling.
The Engineering Manager will lead and grow the Application Security team, coaching senior AppSec engineers, setting goals, and delivering on the security roadmap. Key responsibilities include building automated pen-testing pipelines, scaling triage processes with AI, reviewing engineering proposals to ensure secure design, conducting red-teaming exercises, and defining the AppSec vision in collaboration with leadership. Additionally, the manager will lead incident response efforts and mentor and hire new team members.
Candidates should have over five years of experience as a security or full-stack engineer working on production systems, with at least two years managing a security or platform engineering team. Hands-on expertise in application security, including threat modeling, code review, and at least one offensive-security discipline (e.g., penetration testing, red teaming) is essential. A proven track record of implementing automation that enhances team operations, particularly through the use of AI, is highly desirable. Strong written communication skills and the ability to operate across the full security lifecycle are also important.
The compensation package includes a competitive salary ranging from $210,000 to $240,000 per year, along with benefits such as parental leave, 401(k), health insurance, commuter assistance, and a career development plan.
