Senior Software Development Engineer in Test
Qualia, a leading B2B real estate technology company, is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join their team. The company specializes in transforming the home buying and selling experience into a simple, secure, and enjoyable process by providing a shared digital closing platform for various stakeholders, including homebuyers, sellers, lenders, title and escrow agents, and real estate agents. This platform offers greater clarity and transparency to real estate transactions, serving millions of consumers annually.
In this role, the Senior SDET will focus on building and maintaining test infrastructure, release orchestration tooling, and performance testing systems as production-grade software. Responsibilities include designing and building test automation frameworks, migrating from Cypress to Playwright, and managing core infrastructure such as test environment provisioning, parallelization, and CI/CD test execution at scale. The SDET will define the appropriate automation framework and strategy for each layer of the testing pyramid—unit, integration, API, and end-to-end—to ensure coverage is both fast and reliable. Additionally, the role involves maintaining release orchestration tooling, building observability into test frameworks, and addressing challenging engineering problems from flaky test infrastructure to AI-assisted testing tooling.
Candidates should have over five years of experience as a software engineer specializing in test infrastructure, developer tooling, or release engineering systems. Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript is essential, with the ability to design and build backend services and tooling for test infrastructure from scratch. Experience in building or scaling CI/CD systems, release orchestration pipelines, or test infrastructure at a systems level is required. A strong understanding of the testing pyramid and experience in selecting the right automation approach and tooling for each layer are necessary. The ideal candidate will also have experience building observability or monitoring into test frameworks, using AI tools in the quality workflow, and mentoring junior engineers.
While specific compensation details are not provided, Qualia offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees both in and out of the workplace. This includes medical, dental, and vision healthcare plans, competitive salary and equity options, and flexible schedules. The company also provides a 401(k) program, commuter benefits, professional development opportunities, parental leave, and a flexible time-off policy.
Qualia fosters a collaborative and mission-driven culture, emphasizing the use of technology to solve real-world problems. Employees are encouraged to take ownership and make a direct impact from day one. The company has been recognized as a Great Place to Work, with high employee satisfaction ratings in areas such as feeling welcomed, cared for, and believing in ethical management practices.
