Senior Manager, Internal Controls
Qualia is a leading B2B real estate technology company that has developed a digital closing platform to simplify and secure the home buying and selling process. Their platform connects various stakeholders in the real estate ecosystem, including homebuyers, sellers, lenders, title and escrow agents, and real estate agents, providing greater clarity and transparency to real estate transactions. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with offices in Austin, TX, and Superior, CO.
The Senior Manager, Internal Controls will oversee Qualia's SOC 1 program, managing the entire lifecycle from readiness through recurring examinations. This includes designing controls, creating process narratives, developing risk and control matrices, collecting evidence, remediating gaps, and managing external audits across the company's suite of products. Additionally, the role involves executing internal control testing for the SOC 2 program, assessing control effectiveness, documenting findings, and collaborating with Security, Engineering, and Operations teams to address any identified gaps. A key objective is to internalize work currently performed by external consultants, building the necessary documentation, testing cadence, and institutional knowledge to run these programs independently. Over time, this role is expected to expand into a broader internal audit function covering financial, operational, and compliance risks across the company.
Candidates should have over six years of experience in internal or external audit, SOC reporting, or IT/financial controls, with a proven track record of increasing scope and ownership. Direct, hands-on experience with SOC 1 programs is essential, including building or auditing such programs. A working knowledge of SOC 2 and the Trust Services Criteria is also required, along with comfort in testing controls within engineering and infrastructure environments. Strong command of internal control frameworks, such as COSO and ICFR concepts, and risk-based audit planning is necessary. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with ambiguity and capable of building from the ground up, as this is a pioneering role at Qualia. Excellent written communication skills are crucial, as the role involves preparing narratives, workpapers, and findings that must withstand external audits and be clear to executives. Intellectual honesty and independence are important, as the role may require delivering unwelcome findings to senior leaders while maintaining professional relationships. An AI-forward approach, utilizing tools like Claude and Gemini to accelerate documentation, testing, and evidence workflows, is also desirable.
The role offers an annual base salary ranging from $165,000 to $195,000, complemented by a competitive equity and benefits package. Salary determination will consider relevant experience, location, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
