Forward Deployed Engineer
The Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at Banyan Software is a pivotal role that bridges the central AI Application Modernization Factory and various application teams. This position involves temporary embedding within delivery teams to spearhead the modernization of key applications, ensuring technical success and fostering the adoption of AI-assisted software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices. Banyan Software, established in 2016 and headquartered in Atlanta, focuses on acquiring, building, and growing enterprise software businesses across specialized industries.
Key responsibilities include providing hands-on technical leadership to design, develop, and deliver modernization efforts, such as re-platforming and adopting microservices architectures on AWS cloud-native platforms. The FDE acts as a subject matter expert on AI Modernization Factory tools and processes, driving the integration of AI-assisted software development practices into daily workflows. Additionally, the role involves building trust with diverse teams, identifying and addressing technical and process bottlenecks, and ensuring adherence to engineering standards like Twelve-Factor App principles and DevSecOps practices.
Candidates should possess over five years of progressive experience in software engineering, focusing on enterprise applications and modernization. Strong hands-on experience across the full application stack is essential, with proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, C#, or Java. Deep practical experience in building and deploying scalable applications on AWS, along with strong proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, is required. The role also demands proven abilities in consulting, change management, and effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The expected base salary for this position is CAD 145,000 or USD 170,000, excluding annual bonuses. Compensation is based on factors including market conditions, location, and the candidate's skills and experience.
