Rocket Lab is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer II - Electrical to join our team at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. This role is integral to the development and activation of test facilities supporting the Archimedes rocket engine and the Neutron launch vehicle. The successful candidate will work from conceptual design through build-out and activation of a brand-new test facility, ensuring the successful development and operation of engines and vehicle systems.

Key responsibilities include designing critical test infrastructure such as process diagrams, electrical system layouts for power, lighting, and computer systems, as well as data acquisition and instrumentation systems. The engineer will specify and procure electrical and computer systems equipment, coordinate with vendors and facilities groups for the design and fabrication of key subsystems, and collaborate closely with other Rocket Lab test and launch sites to ensure safety and seamless operation of electrical ground systems. Additionally, the role involves working onsite for build-out and activation, preparing test procedures, interfacing with data acquisition and control systems, and collecting and interpreting critical data to support test facility readiness.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent disciplines, along with at least 2 years of experience designing and operating electrical systems for test stands or large industrial complexes. Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and operating electrical systems at aerospace test or launch facilities, whether through internships, college activities, or prior employment, is essential.

Preferred qualifications include a master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field, experience operating facilities for liquid oxygen and liquid methane, knowledge of electrical safety and design codes like NFPA 70A, and proficiency with National Instruments LabVIEW software and hardware. The ability to troubleshoot facility electrical systems, generate corrective work instructions, and a working knowledge of computer networks and IT infrastructure are also advantageous. Familiarity with PLCs, data acquisition, and instrumentation, as well as experience working with various disciplines, fabricators, and suppliers to achieve on-time project execution, will be beneficial. The candidate should be able to remain unfazed by ambiguity or changes in strategic direction while maintaining a positive attitude and being self-actualized and self-guided.
