Head of Efficacy Research
Duolingo is seeking a Head of Efficacy Research to lead its Efficacy Research Lab, focusing on evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of its educational products. This role involves setting the strategic vision for efficacy research, managing a team of researchers, and collaborating with senior leaders to ensure that learning outcomes are optimized across subjects like language and math. The position is based in Pittsburgh or New York.
Key responsibilities include designing and executing rigorous research studies to assess product efficacy, from study design through data collection and analysis. The role also involves serving as a player-coach to a team of three researchers, setting priorities, providing scientific guidance, and contributing directly to high-impact work. Additionally, the Head of Efficacy Research will partner with Product, Learning Design, and company leadership to inform product strategy and improve learner outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in education, learning sciences, cognitive science, educational psychology, psychometrics, or a related field, along with over 12 years of relevant experience. They should have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and experience leading research programs evaluating educational products. Expertise in applied research methods, advanced quantitative and technical skills, and exceptional communication abilities are essential. Experience managing and developing researchers and the ability to lead multiple research initiatives simultaneously are also required.
