Lead Supplier Quality Engineer
The Lead Supplier Quality Engineer at Rocket Lab's Auckland, New Zealand facility is responsible for ensuring that procured parts and processes consistently meet quality requirements. This role involves leading a team of Supplier Quality Engineers and acting as a liaison between internal stakeholders and suppliers to translate technical requirements into clear specifications. The position is integral to Rocket Lab's mission of delivering responsive launch services and spacecraft manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing supplier quality systems and processes, utilizing tools and metrics to monitor supplier performance, and leading initiatives to improve product quality and reduce non-conformances. The role also involves supporting suppliers in scaling production processes to meet future quality, cost, and delivery targets, as well as introducing new products into production through methodologies like NPI, APQP, and PPAP. Additionally, the Lead Supplier Quality Engineer acts as a bridge between suppliers, internal teams, and senior management to ensure alignment on technical requirements and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in a quality role, preferably within regulated industries such as Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, or Industrial. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field is required. Strong knowledge of quality systems, engineering drawings, GD&T, and specialized manufacturing processes like fabrication, CNC, PCBAs, and 3D printing is essential. Proficiency in root cause analysis tools and practical problem-solving methodologies is also necessary. Proven ability to lead projects, manage supplier relationships, and drive quality improvements across the supply chain is expected.
