As the Manager of Design Criteria Engineering at Divergent, you will lead the development and management of interfaces between customer programs and the core technology development team. This role is pivotal in translating system-level requirements from vehicle and defense programs into actionable platform capabilities across software, materials, automation, and process technology. Divergent is a technology company that has developed the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS), an end-to-end factory system utilizing machine learning to engineer, manufacture, and assemble complex vehicle structures and subsystems.

In this position, you will develop a structured requirements decomposition framework linking application system-level requirements to platform technology requirements. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining traceability matrices connecting customer needs to DAPS platform capabilities, partnering with Program Managers and Platform Leads to align development priorities, authoring standardized design criteria frameworks for major application classes, and supporting cross-functional reviews to validate platform capabilities. Additionally, you will identify and communicate capability gaps, support the creation of digital requirements management tools, document lessons learned from production programs, and collaborate with various engineering teams to codify test data and validation results into platform baselines.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structures Engineering, or a related technical discipline, along with a minimum of 7 years of experience in systems engineering, requirements management, or platform/product integration within complex mechanical, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing environments. A strong understanding of requirements decomposition, validation planning, and interface control across multidisciplinary teams is essential. Demonstrated ability to translate customer and program objectives into formalized platform requirements and testable design criteria, as well as a proven record of cross-functional collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and software organizations, are also required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to synthesize complex, multi-domain inputs into actionable frameworks.

Divergent offers a competitive compensation package for this role, with a salary range of $157,190 to $216,150. The company provides a holistic compensation package that includes a competitive salary, equity plan, and discretionary results-based incentive bonus opportunities. Additional benefits include paid vacation, sick time, company holidays, paid parental leave, comprehensive health and wellness benefits with HMO and Premium PPO options, company-sponsored life insurance, and short and long-term disability coverage. Divergent is committed to professional development, offering reimbursement opportunities for learning and development initiatives.

Joining Divergent means becoming part of a collaborative, dynamic, and high-performing team within a fast-paced, mission-driven company. The company is disrupting the traditional manufacturing industry by fostering innovation and integrating people and technology to reduce its footprint. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of technology and production, contributing to a transformative journey in the automotive and defense sectors.
