Mass Properties Engineer
Archer is seeking a Mass Properties Engineer to join our team in San Jose, California. In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing our electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from concept to certified reality. As part of the Mass Properties team, you will ensure precise weight and balance management, directly influencing the performance and safety of our innovative aircraft.
Your primary responsibilities will include leading mass properties programs across multiple aircraft platforms, maintaining a comprehensive database tracking weight, center of gravity, and inertia for all aircraft variants, and collaborating with design, structures, and systems teams to validate mass assumptions and drive weight optimization decisions. Additionally, you will conduct aircraft inspections, lead weighing operations, and execute weight and balance audits to ensure compliance with flight safety and performance targets.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field, along with 5-10 years of experience in mass properties, weight engineering, or related disciplines on aircraft or aerospace vehicle programs. A strong understanding of weight and balance principles for dynamic systems, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate technical data to cross-functional audiences are essential. Proficiency with CAD tools, experience with ARP4754A certification processes, and familiarity with eVTOL or novel aircraft configurations are preferred.
Archer offers a competitive base salary ranging from $170,000 to $215,000, determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
