Mechanical Design Engineer, Power Electronics
Archer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Power Electronics to join our team in San Jose, California. As a leading aerospace company, Archer is dedicated to developing all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft aimed at advancing sustainable air mobility. Our mission is to design, manufacture, and operate aircraft capable of carrying four passengers with minimal noise, revolutionizing urban transportation.
In this role, you will lead the mechanical design of high-power electrical assemblies, including DC-DC converters, chargers, and motor controllers, from initial concept to final design. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—comprising mechanical, systems, electrical, safety, and manufacturing engineers—you will optimize designs to enhance overall vehicle performance. Your responsibilities will encompass addressing challenges such as thermal management, high-voltage electrical isolation, shock and vibration resilience, environmental sealing, and electromagnetic interference mitigation.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, along with over four years of relevant mechanical design experience. Demonstrated expertise in designing high-voltage electronic assemblies from concept to production is essential. Strong analytical skills in structural analysis, fluid dynamics, thermal management, and materials science are required. Proficiency in 3D design software, preferably NX, and a solid understanding of electrical design fundamentals are also necessary. Familiarity with thermal and structural finite element analysis tools, as well as experience with high-volume manufacturing processes, will be advantageous.
Archer offers a dynamic work environment where innovation and collaboration are highly valued. Employees have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in eVTOL technology, with potential for professional growth and development. Our inclusive culture emphasizes diversity and supports team members in achieving their full potential, making Archer an exciting place to advance your career in aerospace engineering.
