Mechanical Systems Engineer - Fuel Systems
Archer is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer specializing in fuel systems to join our team in San Jose, California. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and integrating the fuel system for our hybrid-electric prototype aircraft, contributing to our mission of advancing sustainable air mobility.
In this role, you will be responsible for the complete design and integration of the aircraft's fuel system, including components such as tanks, pumps, valves, filters, and lines. Your day-to-day tasks will involve creating and managing 3D CAD layouts to ensure proper routing and integration with the airframe, conducting trade studies focused on weight optimization and reliability, and collaborating with suppliers to select appropriate components. Additionally, you will oversee the prototype development process, from requirements and design to assembly and qualification testing.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and have 5 to 15 years of experience in mechanical or systems engineering within the aerospace or aviation industry. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA) for fuel system layout and tube/hose routing is essential. A strong understanding of fluid mechanics, pressure drop calculations, and pump performance is required, along with experience in selecting and specifying fuel system components. Familiarity with Mil-Spec fasteners, aerospace fluid system standards, and knowledge of fuel system safety requirements are also important. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams are crucial for success in this role.
Archer offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary ranging from $90,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employees also benefit from a diverse and inclusive workplace culture, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to work on cutting-edge aerospace technology focused on sustainability and innovation.
