Policy Counsel
Anthropic is seeking a Policy Counsel to support its public policy and legal initiatives at the intersection of AI technology and regulation. As a member of the legal team, the Policy Counsel will work cross-functionally to navigate emerging policy challenges and help build and advocate for frameworks that promote responsible AI development. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to tackle novel legal and policy questions while contributing directly to the future of AI governance.
Key responsibilities include supporting the development of AI governance frameworks that align with evolving regulations, industry best practices, and global standards. The Policy Counsel will monitor and analyze emerging legislative and regulatory developments related to AI, provide legal analysis and advice to the External Affairs team and other Public Policy stakeholders, and assist in drafting policy positions, responses to regulatory inquiries, and advocacy materials. Additionally, the role involves partnering with Public Policy and technical teams to develop practical policy guidance informed by a deep understanding of Anthropic's products.
The ideal candidate will have a JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar, preferably California. A minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience is required, ideally with exposure to policy, regulatory, or government affairs work. Strong interest in AI/ML policy, data privacy, copyright, technology regulation, or related areas is essential. The candidate should possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, and a collaborative, low-ego approach. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and a commitment to responsible AI development are also important.
The expected base compensation for this position ranges from $205,000 to $265,000 annually.
