Product Counsel, Credit
Block is seeking a Product Counsel to provide comprehensive legal guidance on product and feature development within its Cash App division, focusing on credit and lending services. This role involves collaborating with product teams to develop new offerings while managing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. The position reports to Cash App’s Head of Product Counsel (Commerce and Credit) and offers the flexibility of remote work.
In this role, the Product Counsel will be responsible for offering legal guidance to product and engineering teams throughout the entire product development lifecycle. Key duties include drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, terms of use, product policies, and disclosures. The counsel will also work closely with support teams such as tax, compliance, and accounting to provide seamless support to business partners. Additionally, the role involves cultivating creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments and enhance customer experiences.
Candidates should have over eight years of relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, or in-house legal departments, with a focus on consumer lending products and related regulations. Experience in advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology sector is essential. Strong commercial negotiation and drafting skills are required, along with the ability to translate legal advice into actionable guidance for product teams. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in at least one state bar are mandatory.
Block offers a market-based compensation package, with salaries varying depending on location. U.S. locations are categorized into four zones based on a cost of labor index, with Zone A offering a salary range of $217,800 to $326,800 USD.
