Propulsion Controls Engineer, Motor
Archer is seeking a highly skilled Propulsion Controls Engineer to design, develop, and optimize control systems for our advanced electric propulsion and power generation systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in bringing safe, sustainable, and scalable urban air mobility to life through innovative propulsion control technologies.
In this role, you will design, implement, and validate advanced motor and generator control algorithms for electric propulsion systems, including sensorless and observer-based control techniques. You will develop interfaces between flight control computers, motor and generator inverters, propulsion controls, and battery management systems. Additionally, you will coordinate with aerodynamics, structures, and flight controls teams to optimize integrated propulsion system performance.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in aircraft propulsion systems, high-performance electric motor control, flight controls, electric vehicle powertrains, or energy storage systems. Extensive experience with advanced motor control algorithms, such as Field-Oriented Control (FOC), Direct Torque Control (DTC), observers, and sensorless control, is preferred. A background in flight-critical or safety-critical system development is essential, along with expert-level proficiency in control integration, state machine design, high-voltage systems, and fault-tolerant control. Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++ for real-time embedded control systems, and Python for analysis is also required.
Archer offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $144,000 to $198,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional benefits include performance bonuses and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
Joining Archer means becoming part of a team dedicated to advancing sustainable urban air mobility. We are committed to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences and supports and celebrates all of our team members. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced, innovative environment, contributing to the future of transportation.
