Propulsion Engineer II, Engine Systems
Rocket Lab is seeking a Propulsion Engineer II to join the Archimedes Engine Systems team, a pivotal component of the Neutron rocket program. This role is integral to the development, testing, and operation of the Archimedes Engine family, contributing to Rocket Lab's mission of delivering responsive launch services and advancing space exploration.
The Propulsion Engineer II will be responsible for designing, analyzing, testing, and refining next-generation propulsion hardware to ensure operational readiness and flight success. Key duties include developing clear requirements, executing engine test plans, conducting performance validation and reliability testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust integration and problem-solving. Additionally, the role involves supporting flight operations, including engine acceptance and post-flight analysis.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in rocket engine development, testing, or operations. A strong technical understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and cryogenic systems is essential, as is a fundamental grasp of mechanical design principles. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in a fluid mechanics-intensive field, experience with staged combustion rocket engines and Methyl/LOX propellant systems, and a background in failure analysis, combustion dynamics, turbopump mechanics, or fluid systems analysis.
Rocket Lab offers a competitive compensation package, with a base salary ranging from $100,000 to $125,000 annually.
