Research Engineer, Machine Learning

Anduril Industries is seeking a Research Engineer specializing in Machine Learning to join their Frontier AI team. This role focuses on integrating advanced AI systems into the Lattice software platform, enhancing autonomy and reducing cognitive load for military personnel. Anduril is a defense technology company dedicated to transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through cutting-edge technology.

The Research Engineer will be responsible for distilling and fine-tuning transformer architectures for deployment on edge devices or in compute-denied environments. Additionally, the role involves proposing and prototyping LLM-based agentic systems to address real-world challenges, developing and maintaining mission-relevant benchmarks, and collaborating across various business lines to identify and scope new research problems.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, along with over five years of experience in developing and benchmarking machine learning algorithms. Proficiency in Python and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch are essential. Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance is also required.

Preferred qualifications include experience in fine-tuning transformer-based models, deploying deep-learning models to edge devices or air-gapped environments, and prior experience in defense technology or startup environments.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $220,000 to $292,000 USD, with actual compensation varying based on factors such as experience and skills.
