Senior Android Engineer, App Builds
As a Senior Android Engineer on the App Builds team at Duolingo, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Android build systems. This position is integral to our Client Platform area, focusing on centralizing build logic, developing modularization strategies, and optimizing build times to support a team of over 70 Android developers.
Your primary responsibilities will include modernizing our continuous integration (CI) build and release pipelines by migrating to new GitHub Action workflows. You will develop tooling and automation to accelerate the modularization of our Kotlin codebase, design and evolve Android test infrastructure to enhance developer velocity and test reliability, and proactively identify and implement improvements to build performance, reliability, and developer workflows as the Android ecosystem evolves. Additionally, you will foster a culture of engineering excellence and mentor engineers at all experience levels.
The ideal candidate will have over six years of Android software engineering experience, with at least one to two years in developing scalable production software. Experience supporting Gradle-based projects or managing large Android builds is essential. A proven ability to drive large-scale technical initiatives across multiple teams and proficiency in Android development using standard tools and frameworks are also required.
Exceptional candidates will possess expertise in working with CI/CD platforms like GitHub Actions and have experience with Gradle principles, such as caching and task avoidance.
Duolingo offers a competitive salary range between $182,800 and $247,300 USD, along with equity compensation and comprehensive benefits.
