Senior Application Engineer, CMOS Image Sensor
Samsung Semiconductor is seeking a Senior Application Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on developing and validating cutting-edge CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) technologies. This role involves not only sensor characterization but also establishing objective and subjective image quality standards. The successful candidate will collaborate across design, process, and product engineering teams to ensure that CIS devices meet stringent technical specifications and exceed end-user visual expectations across the entire system.
Key responsibilities include establishing evaluation criteria and measurement methodologies for the full imaging system under various conditions, conducting detailed characterization and performance analysis, and analyzing test results to identify trends and root causes of image performance issues. The role also involves working closely with design and process teams to provide feedback and propose improvements, developing and automating test flows using standard programming languages and specialized software tools, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry image quality standards. Additionally, the engineer will act as the primary technical contact for customers, addressing technical questions and concerns, and diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues promptly.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's with 3+ years, or a PhD with 0+ years of experience. A strong understanding of CIS operation principles, including pixel, readout chain, ADC behavior, and the full imaging pipeline, is essential. Hands-on experience with image sensor characterization, test system operation, and standardized image quality lab environments is required. Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or similar platforms, ideally paired with experience using professional image quality evaluation software like Imatest, is also necessary. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with a proactive mindset and strong attention to detail, are crucial for success in this role.
The position offers a competitive base pay range of $138,000 to $206,000 USD, with additional incentive opportunities based on individual and company performance.
