Senior Autonomy Engineer
As a Senior Autonomy Engineer at Applied Intuition's UK Engineering team, you will lead the design, development, and verification of high-performance autonomy solutions tailored for the defense industry. This role involves crafting perception and planning algorithms, optimizing system performance, and developing robust architectures. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will translate complex requirements into technical solutions while mentoring junior engineers. The position emphasizes continuous innovation, rigorous testing, debugging, and documentation to stay at the forefront of AI technology.
Key responsibilities include prototyping, evaluating, refining, and deploying state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms for defense applications. You will leverage existing products to build foundational software and infrastructure for behavior-specific machine learning development. Close collaboration with perception and planning engineers on cross-team initiatives is essential. Additionally, you will work with product managers to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions, while fostering a culture of learning and improvement by mentoring junior engineers. Staying updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to enhance product development is also a critical aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing autonomous vehicle solutions for aerospace and defense, along with expertise in the end-to-end development cycle of deep learning models. Proficiency in subdomains such as modeling, input pipelines, evaluation, deployment, and model optimization is required. A minimum of 5 years of experience building production software using modern practices is essential. Fluency in C++ is expected, or fluency in Python with intermediate experience in C++. References should describe the candidate as low-ego, highly motivated, thoughtfully opinionated, strong communicators, and curious listeners.
