Senior Cost and Project Accountant I
The Senior Cost and Project Accountant I at Rocket Lab's Solar Manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, plays a pivotal role within the Finance team. This position is responsible for managing contract revenue, cost of sales, and inventory, ensuring accurate financial reporting for significant customer contracts. The role reports to the Program Accounting Manager and collaborates closely with various departments to support Rocket Lab's mission of delivering responsive space services.
Key responsibilities include overseeing project revenue and cost recognition, updating and reconciling customer contract backlogs, and tracking inventory. The accountant will support the Estimate at Completion (EAC) cycle for project estimates, review new contracts in accordance with accounting revenue standards, and set up programs and charge codes in the accounting system. Additional duties involve initiating process improvement projects, investigating accounting irregularities, and performing month-end activities such as booking journal entries and preparing reports.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience, or equivalent work experience totaling 9 years. Strong cost accounting experience in a complex manufacturing environment is essential, along with proficiency in ERP systems and a proven track record in providing financial decision support. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are desirable, as well as advanced Excel and analytical abilities.
