Senior Data Engineer
As a Senior Data Engineer at Checkr, you will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining scalable, high-quality data pipelines that power our centralized data platform. This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic team dedicated to advancing our mission of building safe and fair decision-making platforms. Checkr serves over 100,000 customers, including industry leaders such as Amazon, DoorDash, and Netflix.
In this role, you will independently design and implement complex batch and streaming data pipelines using technologies like PySpark, SQL, and AWS services. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to ship impactful features, ensuring pipeline reliability through testing and monitoring, and contributing to architectural discussions to improve system performance. Additionally, you will be tasked with investigating and resolving production issues related to the services owned by the team.
The ideal candidate will have 6–7+ years of experience in data engineering, with strong proficiency in PySpark, Python, and SQL. Experience in building large-scale data pipelines, familiarity with streaming systems like Kafka, and a solid understanding of data modeling and relational databases are essential. Proficiency with AWS services such as EMR, Glue, Athena, Lambda, and S3 is required, while exposure to technologies like Iceberg, Databricks, Snowflake, or Graph/Vector stores is considered a plus.
Compensation for this role varies by location, with a base salary range of $185,000 to $218,000 USD in San Francisco, CA, and $157,000 to $185,000 USD in Denver, CO. Checkr offers a collaborative work environment with in-office perks such as daily lunches, commuter stipends, and a variety of snacks and beverages. Employees are expected to work from the office at least three days a week, with relocation stipends available for those willing to move to a Checkr hub location.
