Senior Data Scientist (Credit)

As a customer-centric organization, we are seeking a data-driven, impact-oriented Senior Data Scientist to enhance our consumer lending decisions at scale. This role is pivotal in developing models, experiments, and insights that will shape how we acquire, underwrite, and retain millions of customers across Nigeria and Africa.
In this position, you will be responsible for developing and deploying credit scoring, affordability, and behavioral models to support underwriting, pricing, and collections. You will design and run experiments to optimize approval rates, loss rates, and profitability, and partner with product squads to embed decision logic into real-time systems. Ensuring data quality, compliance, and ethical use of models across all decisioning processes is a key aspect of this role. Additionally, you will mentor product squads on best practices in experimentation and data-driven decision-making, and provide models to optimize outcomes in collections, churn management, and user retention.
The ideal candidate will have a degree or qualifications in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering, and over five years of experience in data science, decision science, or risk analytics within financial services. A working knowledge of credit risk, consumer lending, and regulatory considerations is essential. Proficiency in SQL and at least one modeling/programming language (Python or R) is required, along with experience in A/B testing, machine learning, collections modeling, and churn management. The ability to translate complex analyses into clear recommendations for business stakeholders and a high ownership mindset are crucial for success in this role.
