Senior Site Reliability Engineer
Moniepoint is seeking an experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer to enhance the reliability of our highly distributed financial platform. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to define Service Level Objectives (SLOs), lead incident responses, and develop automation and self-healing mechanisms. The position is remote, based in Nigeria, and offers an opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing company that processed $182 billion in 2023 and serves over 3 million users.
Key responsibilities include participating in on-call rotations as the primary technical lead, acting as the Incident Commander during major incidents, and coordinating cross-functional teams. The engineer will instrument code to expose high-cardinality metrics and distributed traces, define and measure SLOs, and write high-quality code in Java, Go, or Python to build internal tooling and automation platforms. Additionally, the role involves partnering with Product Engineering teams to ensure new services are built with reliability and scalability from the outset, and analyzing system performance to model future capacity needs.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or Backend Engineering, with strong coding skills in Java, Go, Rust, or Python. A deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and design patterns is essential, along with extensive experience with Google Cloud Platform or similar cloud providers. Proficiency in running production workloads on Kubernetes and troubleshooting infrastructure issues is required. Experience designing observability strategies using tools like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or Datadog, and familiarity with operating production data stores and streaming platforms in high-throughput environments are also important.
