May Mobility is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and refining safety and comfort metrics to evaluate the performance of our autonomous vehicles. Your work will directly influence product readiness and engineering priorities, ensuring that every driving decision meets the highest standards of safety and passenger experience.

Key responsibilities include developing and refining safety and comfort metrics for evaluating autonomous vehicle performance across real-world and simulation data. You will build machine learning and non-machine learning models to detect unsafe, uncomfortable, or anomalous behaviors. Additionally, you will analyze large-scale drive logs and simulation datasets to identify patterns, regressions, and system gaps. Collaboration with perception, prediction, behavior, and simulation teams to integrate metrics into workflows is essential. Communicating insights and recommendations to engineering leaders and cross-functional teams will also be a critical part of your role.

The ideal candidate will have a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Math, or a related quantitative field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, robotics, or autonomous systems is required, along with at least 2 years of experience working in autonomous vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems, robotics, or another safety-critical domain involving vehicle behavior analysis. Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analysis tools such as Pandas, NumPy, and Spark is essential. A solid understanding of vehicle dynamics, kinematics, agent interactions, and road/traffic elements is also necessary. Excellent technical communication skills and a detail-oriented approach with a focus on validation, testing, and error detection are crucial.
