Senior Engineering Manager - Security Platform Engineering
Canva is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Security Platform Engineering and Security Development teams. The Security Group at Canva is dedicated to safeguarding the company's systems and data from information security threats, operating across domains such as Application Security, Risk Management, Enterprise Security, and Threat Detection and Response. This role involves managing two specialized teams focused on developing and implementing software solutions to mitigate security risks.
The Security Platform Engineering team is responsible for addressing security-specific challenges by leveraging domain expertise to facilitate the development of Canva's unique features. Their mission is to empower engineers to write secure code effortlessly by providing a suite of standardized tools and processes. Current projects include building sandbox capabilities, workload isolation, and Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) solutions. The Security Development team focuses on creating and maintaining software that enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the broader Security Group, such as vulnerability scanning and incident response tools.
Key responsibilities for this position include managing and mentoring two small teams of software engineers, defining and executing strategic roadmaps that balance security requirements with developer experience, and promoting the adoption of security systems across Canva's engineering teams. The role also involves overseeing development methodologies to ensure high team performance and providing regular, constructive feedback to support engineers' professional growth.
The ideal candidate will have experience in directly managing high-performing teams aligned with company missions and goals, strong software engineering fundamentals with the ability to engage in complex software architecture discussions, and proficiency in languages such as Golang, Java, or Rust. Experience in building and operating cloud-based services and collaborating cross-functionally with software engineering, SRE/DevOps, and compliance teams to integrate security into developer workflows is also essential.
