Key responsibilities include defining the roadmap for Canva's video template system, collaborating with motion designers, product managers, and AI researchers to translate creative needs into scalable engineering solutions. The role also involves architecting and overseeing the "Template Authoring Mode," balancing professional-grade precision with Canva's signature simplicity. Additionally, the manager will recruit, onboard, and lead a specialized engineering team in San Francisco, fostering a culture of technical excellence and rapid iteration.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing engineering teams and team leads, particularly within creative tools, multimedia systems, or complex platform environments. Deep systems architecture expertise, familiarity with video editing workflows, and a strong commitment to user experience are essential. Experience building extensible frameworks, SDKs, or large-scale content systems is highly desirable.
