Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer to join the Neutron team at our Auckland, New Zealand site. In this role, you will contribute to the development of the next-generation Command & Data Handling system for the Neutron launch vehicle, a medium-lift, reusable rocket designed for large constellation deployments. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full software stack, building core flight software, simulation frameworks, and development tools for mission-critical applications.

As a Senior Flight Software Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include developing core C++ flight software across embedded and application layers, building and maintaining simulation frameworks for end-to-end mission validation and hardware-in-the-loop integration, and creating Python-based tools such as code generators and data-analysis utilities. You will also lead or contribute to architecture trades, design reviews, and backlog refinement, support the full software lifecycle from planning and implementation to deployment of operational software, and deliver high-impact engineering projects spanning multiple teams and disciplines.

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with over five years of experience developing modern C++ and/or embedded software. Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages, experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), deployment tooling, Git, and issue tracking systems are essential. Demonstrated success working in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities is also required.

Preferred qualifications include experience with highly reliable or safety-critical software systems, a background in requirements-driven software design, a strong mathematical foundation, experience with machine learning, and experience developing simulation software for control or physical systems such as rockets, UAVs, or autonomous vehicles.
