Senior Machine Learning Engineer, AI Personalization
Block is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead AI personalization initiatives within our dynamic team. As a company dedicated to economic empowerment, Block's diverse brands—including Square, Cash App, Afterpay, TIDAL, Bitkey, and Proto—serve various aspects of the global economy. This role focuses on developing and deploying AI/ML models that enhance user experiences across our ecosystem.
In this position, you will spearhead strategic AI personalization projects, driving their vision, architecture, and execution. Your responsibilities include creating and implementing AI/ML models that power search and recommendation features in both traditional user interfaces and innovative agentic interfaces. You will deploy these models at scale to deliver personalized experiences to our users. As a technical leader, you will establish and uphold quality practices, make broad design decisions, and set exemplary standards for the team. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including designers, business partners, and software engineers—is essential to build new technologies and features. Additionally, you will design experiments, test them on production users, analyze results, and iterate accordingly.
The ideal candidate has over 10 years of experience in building and operating high-quality software, with at least 5 years of domain expertise in recommender systems, ranking systems, or similar fields. You should have led the development of complex models trained on large datasets that power customer-facing features. Strong software engineering skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of customer needs are crucial. Experience with PyTorch, PySpark, Databricks, and AWS is advantageous.
Block offers a competitive compensation package, with salary ranges varying based on location. For example, in Zone A, the salary range is $228,700 to $343,100 USD annually.
