Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Tooling & Equipment
Archer is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Tooling & Equipment to join our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team in Santa Clara, California. The AME team is responsible for defining and delivering production systems for our next-generation all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. This role involves collaborating with internal engineering, operations, and external suppliers to design and implement highly automated, scalable manufacturing systems.
In this position, you will lead the development of complex manufacturing equipment and tooling solutions essential for aircraft assembly. Your responsibilities will include translating product and manufacturing requirements into detailed equipment specifications, developing station concepts and process flows, and driving design for manufacturability and assembly inputs with engineering teams. Additionally, you will define safety, quality, and throughput requirements early in the design process.
Key responsibilities encompass authoring and releasing RFQ packages for tooling and equipment, evaluating supplier proposals and capabilities, and leading technical reviews with cross-functional stakeholders. You will partner with suppliers to co-develop manufacturable, scalable solutions and oversee supplier performance through design, build, and delivery phases. Furthermore, you will manage equipment design reviews, develop and execute FAT and SAT protocols, and support installation, integration, and commissioning on the factory floor to ensure production readiness.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or a related engineering field, along with over five years of manufacturing engineering experience focusing on tooling and equipment. Experience in specifying and delivering capital equipment through suppliers and a strong understanding of assembly, structures, composites, or systems integration are essential. Preferred qualifications include experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-rate production environments, working with automation suppliers or line integrators, and familiarity with PLM, CAD, and manufacturing simulation tools.
