Braze is seeking a Senior Platform Software Engineer I to join our team responsible for designing and building the distributed systems that power our large-scale background processing platform. As a Platform Software Engineer, you will own and enhance our Sidekiq infrastructure, which processes over a trillion jobs daily across Kubernetes clusters worldwide. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with application teams to evolve the Sidekiq platform, improving its reliability, performance, and developer experience.

In this position, you will develop and operate internal software frameworks that support Braze’s asynchronous and background processing systems at massive scale. Responsibilities include designing and extending frameworks built on technologies such as Sidekiq to reliably execute over a trillion jobs per day across a globally distributed platform. You will own scaling behavior, reliability guarantees, failure modes, and operational safety of these systems, providing abstractions, tooling, and guardrails that allow application teams to use distributed processing safely without managing underlying complexity. Additionally, you will improve observability, debuggability, and operational ergonomics for large-scale job-processing systems.

The ideal candidate has over 5 years of experience in distributed systems development or platform/infrastructure roles. You should have a strong understanding of system interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, behaviors, and specific implementations. A collaborative mindset, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to deliver quickly are essential. Experience with large-scale API-driven systems, application and systems observability, and technologies such as Sidekiq, Ruby on Rails, Go, MongoDB, Redis, and Kafka is highly desirable. An interest in reliability engineering, including failure modes, retry semantics, and idempotency, is also beneficial.

For candidates based in the United States, the compensation for this position ranges from $128,842 to $232,200 per year, with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $144,000 and $258,000 per year, including bonus or commission. Braze offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock units (RSUs), ensuring all employees have a stake in the company's success.
