Senior/Principal Controls Systems Engineer - Secret Clearance

Rocket Lab's Optical Systems division is seeking a Senior/Principal Controls Systems Engineer to join our team in Tucson, AZ. This role focuses on designing, developing, and testing space-based electro-optical sensors for Department of Defense and Intelligence Community customers. Our division aims to revolutionize the space-based payload market with innovative designs for space, terrestrial, and airborne environments.

In this position, you will support the development of system architecture for space-based optical instruments, emphasizing electrical architecture and controls integration. Key responsibilities include defining and managing system requirements, developing technical documentation, and collaborating with hardware, software, firmware, and test teams to ensure alignment with system requirements and mission objectives. Additionally, you will participate in the development, integration, and testing of space payloads for spacecraft platforms.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in electrical, systems, or aerospace engineering, along with an active Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility. Depending on the level, required experience ranges from 5 to 12+ years in engineering roles, including technical leadership positions. Demonstrated systems engineering experience with a focus on electrical architecture, subsystem integration, and controls development is essential. Proficiency with requirements management and modeling tools such as JAMA, DOORS, or Cameo is also required.
