Senior Product Safety Architect II
The Senior Product Safety Architect II at May Mobility is responsible for defining and owning the end-to-end safety architecture for the company's Level 4 autonomous driving system. This role involves translating safety goals and hazard analyses into concrete system-level design decisions, ensuring that safety properties are verifiable, traceable, and defensible within the safety case. The position requires close collaboration with teams specializing in perception, prediction, planning, and control to embed safety requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include establishing the system decomposition, safety mechanisms, and architectural constraints that support the UL 4600 safety case claims. The architect will derive functional and technical safety concepts from Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) outputs, allocating safety requirements to autonomous vehicle system components such as perception, prediction, planning, actuation, and fallback. Additionally, the role involves identifying and addressing AI/ML-specific safety risks, defining architectural mitigations to maintain safety goals in the presence of learned components, and managing the safety plan to align with product launch schedules.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, along with at least seven years of related work experience. A strong foundation in functional safety standards such as UL 4600 and ISO 26262 is essential, as well as experience in autonomous vehicle or advanced robotics system architecture. Proficiency in safety frameworks like HARA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, and DFA is required, along with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A master's degree and prior experience authoring or contributing to a UL 4600 safety case are desirable.
