The Senior Propulsion Design Engineer I at Rocket Lab Corporation is responsible for designing engine components, including combustion chambers, turbomachinery, and overall engine layouts, for the Archimedes Engine. This role is based at Rocket Lab's headquarters in Long Beach, California, and involves collaboration with the Neutron and Archimedes teams to advance engine development and support the company's mission to provide responsive launch services and spacecraft manufacturing.

Key responsibilities include working with technical experts to design engine systems that meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements. The engineer will develop and own mechanical design solutions for propulsion systems, perform trade studies and design reviews from concept to production, and collaborate with internal and external fabrication teams to bring hardware designs to fruition.

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of relevant engineering experience. A strong foundation in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and structural mechanics is essential. Proficiency in finite element analysis using ANSYS Workbench or similar software, mastery of mechanical design principles, and a solid understanding of design for manufacturing and GD&T principles are also required. Experience in developing parts, assemblies, or systems from concept to production is highly valued.
