Senior Site Reliability Engineer

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Block, you will be a key member of the SRE team, focusing on enhancing the reliability of Block's platform and critical infrastructure. Block is dedicated to building simple, powerful tools that contribute to an open economy, with brands like Square, Cash App, Afterpay, TIDAL, Bitkey, and Proto, each unlocking different aspects of the economy for a broader audience.

In this role, you will proactively and reactively improve system reliability by building and extending platforms, standardizing reliability tools across multiple platforms, and leading the stabilization of high-severity incidents. You will also serve as the primary on-call support for Block's most critical services, coordinating mitigation efforts and driving effective escalation during significant events.

The ideal candidate will have a strong drive to identify and resolve root causes in complex systems, demonstrated technical initiative and leadership, and experience running production on-call for high-availability systems. Familiarity with AI-driven tooling for observability and incident analysis, as well as proficiency with technologies such as Kotlin, Modern Java (11+), MySQL/Vitess/DynamoDB, and Amazon Web Services, is highly desirable.
