Senior Special Test Equipment Engineer - Software
Rocket Lab's Optical Systems division is seeking a Senior Special Test Equipment Engineer - Software to join our team in Tucson, AZ. In this role, you will design, integrate, validate, and maintain optical test equipment essential for characterizing, calibrating, and verifying advanced optical payloads. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that our test equipment meets mission and system-level requirements.
As a Senior Special Test Equipment Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include designing and developing optical Special Test Equipment (STE) for payload characterization and alignment. You will build and maintain optical test stations, fixtures, alignment tools, and automation setups. Additionally, you will execute hands-on optical integration tasks such as bench setup, alignment, calibration, data capture, and troubleshooting. Writing and maintaining optical test procedures, calibration scripts, and acceptance criteria will also be key aspects of your role.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of experience in building or supporting optical or electro-optical test setups. Hands-on experience with optical alignment, metrology tools, and lab-level integration is essential. Strong troubleshooting, data analysis, and lab execution skills are required, as well as the ability to develop clear technical documentation and test procedures. U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is mandatory.
