Senior Staff Engineer, Data Infrastructure

Archer, an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to build the "Data Backbone" of the organization. This role involves architecting, scaling, and ensuring the reliability of the infrastructure that supports the Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams, providing a seamless, self-service environment for data scientists.

Key responsibilities include managing high-throughput data tools such as Trino, Ray, and JupyterHub on Kubernetes; implementing GitOps and automation practices using ArgoCD and Terraform; building monitoring systems with VictoriaMetrics and Vector; maintaining and optimizing MLflow for model tracking; identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks; and participating in on-call rotations to ensure data stack reliability.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of scaling databases and Ray clusters, experience in handling persistent volumes and data gravity, a track record of automating solutions to prevent recurring outages, proficiency in writing Go or Python to extend Kubernetes Operators or automate data workflows, and the ability to develop infrastructure roadmaps from high-level requirements. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is required.

Archer offers a competitive base salary ranging from $182,400 to $228,000, with actual compensation determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
