Skylo Technologies is seeking a Senior Staff RAN Operations Engineer to oversee the health and performance of our Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) Radio Access Network (RAN). This role is pivotal in transitioning our Network Operations from reactive monitoring to proactive, service-centric assurance. The position is based in Espoo, Finland, with an on-site requirement of three days per week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and refining service-aligned RAN Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure actionable detection for Level 2 teams. They will lead parameter tuning and beam-level performance improvements for the live NTN RAN, ensuring safe execution via Change Management. Additionally, the role involves applying Machine Learning models to the operation and optimization of the wireless network to drive predictive maintenance and automated performance tuning. Managing unique satellite physics, including Doppler compensation and large propagation delays, to optimize 3GPP timers and HARQ processes is also a key responsibility. Serving as the final escalation point for production incidents, performing deep root cause analysis using eNodeB/gNodeB logs and RF telemetry, and translating complex RAN behaviors into operational runbooks while mentoring Level 2 engineers are essential aspects of the role. The engineer will also author and maintain Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and RAN operational standards for cloud-native base stations.

Candidates should possess a Master’s or PhD-level degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or Computer Science. A minimum of 12 years in RAN engineering and operations, specifically with LTE/5G (3GPP) and live production networks, is required. Proven experience with the application of Machine Learning to the operation and optimization of wireless telecom networks is essential. Deep knowledge of satellite-specific challenges, including link budget sensitivity and timing/synchronization (GNSS/Octoclock), is necessary. Experience with containerized RAN (Kubernetes/Docker) and modern observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK) is preferred. Proficiency in Linux, Cloud platforms (GCP preferred), and RAN protocol analysis tools is expected. The ability to work across time zones (Silicon Valley, Nordic, and South Asia) to maintain 24/7 network integrity is also important.

Skylo offers competitive compensation packages, including a stock option-based equity program. Comprehensive benefits encompass medical, dental, vision, and a retirement plan. Employees receive monthly allowances for wellness and education reimbursement, along with a generous time-off policy and holidays. There is also the opportunity to temporarily work abroad. Joining Skylo provides a unique chance to be part of developing and running the world’s first commercial, live direct-to-device satellite network and service. Employees have access to a world-class team and talent across tech domains, including software, hardware, chipsets, telecom, satellite, and network virtualization. The company fosters an open, transparent, and inclusive culture that blends characteristics from Silicon Valley, Nordic, and South Asian regions.
