Senior Staff Software Engineer, NR-NTN
Skylo Technologies is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) capabilities within our gNodeB software stack. This role is pivotal in integrating satellite communications with traditional cellular protocols, ensuring our Radio Access Network (RAN) systems effectively address the unique timing and mobility challenges inherent in satellite-integrated 5G networks.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of 5G NR Layer 2/3 protocol stacks and MAC schedulers optimized for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) environments. Key duties include translating 3GPP Release 17/18+ NTN specifications into actionable software requirements, authoring high-level and low-level designs for gNodeB components, and prioritizing 3GPP features such as HARQ disabling and timing advance enhancements for integration into the RAN subsystem.
Applicants should possess substantial experience in LTE/5G NR protocol software development, with at least three years in an architect or lead developer role. A proven track record of adapting terrestrial RAN software for satellite payloads or transparent/regenerative architectures is essential. Experience with User Equipment (UE) simulators and channel emulators configured for high-latency satellite profiles is also required. A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or Electronic Engineering is preferred.
Skylo offers competitive compensation packages, including a stock option-based equity program, comprehensive benefits plans, monthly wellness and education allowances, and generous time-off policies. Employees have the opportunity to work on pioneering direct-to-device satellite networks and collaborate with a world-class team across various tech domains, fostering an open and inclusive culture that blends Silicon Valley, Nordic, and South Asian characteristics.
