Senior Tax Analyst
The Senior Tax Analyst at Braze will be a key member of the Global Tax team, responsible for managing direct and indirect tax compliance, provision, and planning across the company's US and international operations. This role is based in Bucharest, Romania, and involves close collaboration with various departments, including Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Billing, and Operations, to ensure compliant and scalable tax processes that support Braze's rapid global expansion.
Key responsibilities include preparing, reviewing, and filing timely and accurate indirect tax returns, such as US sales and use tax and VAT, along with associated payments, reconciliations, and maintenance of the compliance calendar. The analyst will determine taxability for SaaS/software, digital services, and professional services; maintain tax codes and product taxability matrices; support nexus assessments, registrations, and deregistrations in various jurisdictions; and reconcile indirect and income tax accounts to the general ledger. Additionally, the role involves supporting audits and inquiries from tax authorities, assisting with quarterly and annual global income tax provisions under ASC 740, and supporting the preparation of direct income tax returns and estimated payments for US federal, state, and non-US corporate income taxes in collaboration with external advisors.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, with an advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CECCAR, ADIT, CPA) being a plus. A minimum of 5 years of progressive corporate tax experience in a multinational environment or Big Four/shared services is required, with hands-on experience in indirect tax compliance (VAT and US sales & use) and exposure to direct income tax. Strong knowledge of VAT rules and practical experience with multi-state US sales & use tax compliance are essential. Familiarity with US GAAP and ASC 740, experience supporting quarterly/annual income tax provisions, and proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets and ERP/billing systems are also important. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across time zones and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
