Archer is seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to join its Propulsion Team in San Jose, California. This role focuses on the verification and testing of Archer’s internally developed Propulsion Tilt-rotor system, which interfaces with electric engines and other electric actuation subsystems, as well as low and high-voltage power distribution systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of these systems as Archer advances its mission to develop sustainable air mobility solutions.

Key responsibilities include developing and executing test plans to validate the Electric Engine Tilt-rotor system, designing and conducting requirements-based verification tests on custom test stands, processing test data, and preparing technical reports. The role also involves investigating issues discovered during testing to determine root causes and drive product improvements, developing and improving test stands and tooling, and collaborating with software development, systems engineering, and design teams. Additionally, the engineer will support the development and review of aircraft-level and system-level technical documentation and contribute to improving internal processes and tools.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, along with at least three years of experience in testing highly integrated, safety-critical systems in industries such as aerospace, automotive, or healthcare. Experience with requirements-based testing, actuation control system design, and practical controls implementation is essential. Familiarity with integrated system communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, RS485), various test instrumentation devices, signal processing and analysis, and proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data processing are also required. A basic understanding of electrical circuit design, mechanical engineering, power electronics, and motor drives, as well as ensuring compliance with FAA, DoD, or other aircraft standards, is important. Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to thrive in ambiguous situations, are crucial.

Preferred qualifications include experience executing formal validation and verification activities in a civil aerospace program, prior experience with hydraulic loading actuators, proficiency with data acquisition and analysis software such as Python, MATLAB, or National Instruments, and experience with high-voltage systems and safety protocols. Archer offers a dynamic work environment where innovation and collaboration are valued, providing opportunities for professional growth and development in the rapidly evolving field of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
