Senior Turbomachinery Engineer
Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Turbomachinery Engineer to join our Propulsion Development team in Costa Mesa, California. This role is pivotal in developing and optimizing advanced air-breathing propulsion systems, contributing to our mission of transforming defense capabilities through cutting-edge technology.
The Senior Turbomachinery Engineer will own critical turbomachinery components, overseeing every aspect of their design and analysis. Responsibilities include conducting aerodynamic and thermodynamic evaluations, collaborating closely with manufacturing and assembly teams, and leading projects from conception through testing and validation. The role also involves assisting in the research and development of aircraft engines, engine components, and advanced combustion and fuel injection systems.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and have a minimum of five years of experience in turbomachinery engineering. Required skills include proficiency in creating and maintaining 3D models of compressor geometry, exposure to engine or powertrain component testing, and expertise in the aerodynamics and thermodynamics of turbomachinery. Experience with Siemens NX (Unigraphics) or other CAD packages is essential. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with air-breathing propulsion systems such as small jet engines or auxiliary power units, familiarity with numerical analysis toolsets for turbomachinery like AxStream or Concepts NREC, and experience with aerodynamic rig testing techniques. Knowledge of turbine cycle analysis (NPSS) and professional experience designing, testing, or operating air-breathing combustors, augmentors, ignition systems, variable area nozzles, or turbomachinery are advantageous.
The salary range for this position is $146,000 to $194,000 annually, with actual offers varying based on factors such as experience, education, and critical skills.
