Software Engineer, Cash App - Controls
The Software Engineer position on Cash App's Controls team at Block focuses on developing essential platform infrastructure to protect millions of customers while ensuring equitable access to financial services. This role involves collaborating across engineering, product, and risk teams to build highly available systems that power critical trust and safety decisions within the Cash App ecosystem. As an AI-driven engineering team, the Controls team utilizes agentic coding tools throughout the development lifecycle, from design exploration to implementation and review.
Key responsibilities include partnering closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and business leads to scope, plan, design, build, and launch new features, as well as maintaining existing functionality of the product controls ecosystem. The role also involves leading technical discussions within the team and contributing to design and product discussions across the organization. Additionally, the engineer will leverage experience to mentor teammates and direct AI agents across the full development lifecycle, operating as the architect and decision-maker while AI handles the building.
The ideal candidate has over six years of experience building and operating highly available services, with a strong track record in contributing to cross-functional technical efforts and coordinating across teams. Strong collaboration skills, customer empathy, and a growth mindset are essential. The candidate should have demonstrated fluency with AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar agentic coding tools, in real production work. Staying current on the rapidly evolving landscape of AI tooling and actively experimenting with new capabilities is also expected.
Block offers a competitive compensation package, with salary ranges varying based on location. For example, in Zone A, the salary range is $180,000 to $270,000 USD annually.
