Software Engineer Low Speed Motion Planning & Control Planning
Applied Intuition is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team focused on low-speed motion planning and control for autonomous vehicles. In this role, you will contribute to the development of our autonomous vehicle stack, working closely with both infrastructure and vehicle-side components. We value engineers who take ownership of technical and product decisions, engage directly with users and customers for feedback, and foster a dynamic team culture.
Your primary responsibilities will include designing and implementing motion planning and control modules deployable across various vehicle platforms, enabling precise autonomous navigation in complex scenarios. You will also characterize customer vehicle dynamics to create tailored control solutions, bridging the gap between simulation and real-world performance. Additionally, you will evaluate and apply academic research to develop optimal-control-based solutions using techniques such as nonlinear Model Predictive Control (MPC) and Model Predictive Path Integral (MPPI) control.
We are looking for candidates with a passion for tackling challenging motion planning and control problems, and at least 3 years of experience building production software using modern practices. Hands-on experience testing control solutions on production-grade vehicles is essential. Proficiency in control theory, numerical optimization, numerical analysis, and physics is required, along with enthusiasm for developing practical solutions in a fast-paced environment. Experience writing high-performance C++ code is also necessary.
Preferred qualifications include an MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering or computer science with coursework or research in motion planning or controls. Experience writing software compliant with safety-critical C++ guidelines, such as MISRA and AUTOSAR, is advantageous. Familiarity with quadratic programming solvers, nonlinear optimization tools, and applying machine learning techniques to vehicle dynamics modeling is beneficial. Experience working with both large industrial/commercial vehicles and passenger cars is also a plus.
Compensation for this full-time position includes a base salary ranging from $125,000 to $232,000 USD annually, along with equity and comprehensive benefits. Benefits encompass health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance coverage, 401(k) retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Please note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on the jurisdiction of employment.
