SOX Business Controls Specialist
The SOX Business Controls Specialist at Stripe is a pivotal member of the internal controls over financial reporting function within the Chief Accounting Organization. This role is instrumental in building confidence among investors by implementing a robust SOX program. The specialist will design, implement, and monitor controls to address financial reporting risks, collaborating closely with engineers, business leaders, and various teams across the organization. Reporting directly to the Head of SOX Compliance, this position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Stripe's mission of expanding the economic infrastructure of the internet.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing periodic financial risk assessments, materiality calculations, and scoping of the SOX program. The specialist will collaborate cross-functionally to design leading-edge practices with a financial compliance mindset across complex business process areas. Conducting walkthroughs across all business process areas, ensuring timely review and updates to control documentation, and providing financial internal control guidance in the development and enhancement of financial and operational processes are also essential duties. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and assessing emerging financial reporting risks and developing plans to implement appropriate controls to address these risks promptly. Regular reporting to business leaders on program status, health, and effectiveness of the business process control environment, as well as collaboration with the company’s external audit around financial reporting risks and SOX program approach, are integral parts of the role.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree, with a Master's degree being a plus, in Accounting, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field. A technical certification such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or PMP is required. The role demands over 10 years of experience in managing and/or assessing SOX programs, preferably with Big 4 audit firm or equivalent audit experience. Developed expertise in leading and performing SOX business process program design, control implementation, and monitoring of SOX programs is essential. Strong knowledge of technical accounting, order to cash, and financial close & reporting controls is also required.
Stripe offers a competitive compensation package, including an annual US base salary range for this role of $165,900 - $248,900. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
